Surfing Vacation at Slide Surf Camp in Portugal
Living and working by the Sea with first class surf spots right on the doorstep – that was the dream of the founder of Slide Surf Camp, who fulfilled this dream at the Portuguese Costa de Prata. With its small colorful houses and its maritime flair, the region guarantees a very special holiday experience.
Numerous activities are right on your doorstep. Strolling through the small villages surrounding Aveiro, relaxing at the beach, or going for a SUP ride in the lagoon – it’s all just a few meters away.
Even the highest mountains of the Portuguese mainland are within easy reach by car.
Location and Surroundings
The Serra da Estrela offers mountain biking and hiking tours and impresses with its breathtaking panorama at nearly 2,000 meters in altitude. And the best part: all of this is far away from mass tourism, which is also noticeable in the water. Empty lineups, excellent water quality, and top-class surf courses make your surf vacation perfect. This is ensured not least by the dedicated team of the camp.
Out of a passion for surfing and nature, Nico founded Slide Surfcamp and chose one of the most beautiful regions in the country for it. Come join us on the board – the doors of our large villa with a pool, rooftop terraces, and sea views are open for your surf holiday!
The Slide Surf Camp Team
Nico
Camp leader and co-founder
The adventure pedagogue gained his first surfing experience 16 years ago on the Atlantic coast in France. When the annual surf trips to the Atlantic were no longer sufficient for him in 2007, he started working for a German surf travel provider to extend his stays at the sea and satisfy his growing need for waves. During his extensive student days he liked to travel with his camper van and surfed in the Canaries, New Zealand, Portugal, Holland, Belgium, France and Spain. Before starting his own business, he gained further experience as camp leader in one of the most renowned surf camps in France.
Nalu
Surfcamp Dog
The four and a half year old dog joined the team shortly after the founding of the surf camp and has been an integral part of the surf school since then. Nalu (Hawaiian for “wave”) is the perfect surfer dog, bathes in the sea every day and loves to be petted. If you are looking for someone with whom you can stare into the distance for hours, Nalu is your contact person.
Luis
Headcoach
Luis is our permanent surf instructor and is responsible for the surf lessons as head coach. The Portuguese is always smiling, has an infinite patience and will definitely make you stand up on the surfboard. Because he grew up here, he knows the waves and the locals in the region like the back of his hand. Before turning his love of surfing into a profession, Luis studied product design and regularly creates stylish designs for the surf camp.
Justus
Journalist
There is a good chance, that you will run into Justus during your vacation in the surf camp. He has been a permanent guest since the opening, lives in the camper van on the doorstep and takes care of the texts on the homepage. If you are looking for someone for a surf session or a beer in the evening, he is the right person for that.
Melina
Organisation
After completing her master’s degree in economics, Melina left Germany behind and chose sunshine, the sea, and surfing instead. She joined us as a team member in June 2023 and quickly decided to become a long-term part of our crew. Since October 2023, she’s been managing our camp with full passion—handling bookings, on-site organization, and making sure everything runs smoothly.
You’ll either find Melina in the water or here at the camp—always in a good mood and ready to answer your questions. And after work? You can bet she’s always down for a cold beer!
